American Indian Educational Resources of St. Louis
(AIERStL)
.
Some of the American Indians in St. Louis have joined together for the purpose
of making a contact point between event coordinators, powwows, schools &
American Indian artists, craftsmen, dancers, American Indian Traders, etc.  We
have created a Resource center for the Educational and Artistic needs of both
American Indians and Non Indians alike.   Please click the link located in the site
navigation to goto the
AIERStL's web page.  As we convert to our new name
we will be adding more information on what is available through the American
Indian Educational Resources.
American Indian Educational Resources of St. Louis  is not affiliated with any other
"Native" groups in the St. Louis area

I'd like to thank you for stopping by my site.  My name is Kathy Dickerson, I am a
member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma, a decendant of Silverhorn (sometimes
misspelled as Silver Horn), along with being a member of the IACA (Indian arts
and craft association).  I have been raised in the traditions of my tribe along with
the ability to do the traditional craftwork of my tribe.  I greatly enjoy going to
schools and organizations to give demonstrations of my craftwork or giving
lectures about my tribe, the southern plains, or todays American Indian, along
with  Sharing the story's handed down in my family for as long as any can
remember.
Being a craftworker I also sell my crafts.  My craftwork represents the styles of
the 1800's in the glory days of the horse and buffalo era , My specialty are Kiowa
womans boots, and Southern Plains Moccasins (Kiowa style being my favorite),
along with pouches, belts, Silverwork, etc, some examples are found in my
photo area.   All footwear is made for the exact foot of the intended wearer.
Our Grandkids enjoying a
lil early dance time :)

A Word Of Warning for 2010-
Awareness   concerning fake Indians and fake Indian tribes ( i repeat, there are no Indian tribes in Missouri) is on the
rise.  More people are understanding that there are those that decide they are Indian so they can scam the public or
government.  Yet I am still finding fake Indians doing demonstrations and saddened to say that even some of the schools
around St. Louis are still hiring fakes to give your children bad information (some of these are hired because they are
friends of those that set up shows for the school and you don't have to take it)
Unfortunately there are still many who do not understand.  Even worse there are those that run the schools, museums, and
festivals that are only out to make a buck or save a buck and have little concern as to the information being given to the
public or school children.  Hiring a fake Indian to give lectures or demonstrations only gets you fake information.
I find the best thing to do when you find yourself or child in the presence of an American Indian demonstrator/lecturer is to
ask them what tribe recognizes them (not what tribe are you from).  Many of the fake Indians here in Missouri will claim to
be from a tribe located here in Missouri (there are no tribes here as i have stated), or that they are part of the "lost
Cherokee" which is another red flag.
Fake Indians are a cancer to knowledge sought.  You have a right to question someone hired to give you or your child
information, for example, asking them, asking the people who hired them, and/or google the hired persons name, call the
tribe they say they are from.  You have a right not to be scammed.  If you feel there is a fake Indian teaching your children,
call the school and complain.  If you find them at a museum or festival, tell the person in charge that you will not  patronize
fake shows.  You may also call 1-888-artfake  (American Indian Arts and Crafts board) and report the fraud.
If you have any questions concerning this subject, contact me and ask away.  Be sure to check out the page (link -  don't be
taken by fraud) above.  Fakes don't just hurt the American Indians, they hurt the public who may want to hear about Indian
culture or the consumer that wishes to purchase real Indian artwork and crafts.
